Privacy & data

Your lessons stay with you.

Here is exactly what Bellwork does with your information.

Without an account

You don't need an account to play the games or use the sample lessons; uploading your own lesson needs a free account (below). Lessons you add, your edits, the game in progress, a list of your last 50 finished games (game, lesson, team names, date, and winner), and the dates of your uploads this month (to count the free limit) are saved in this browser only (local storage). Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes them. So does Reset demo data at the bottom of every page, which deletes your uploaded lessons, edits, play history, and the game in progress from this browser.

Lessons you upload belong to the account you were signed in with. They're kept in this browser, but they only show while that account is signed in here: someone else using this computer, signed out or with their own account, doesn't see them or their games. Sample lessons are shared by everyone.

With an account

Accounts are run on Supabase. Bellwork never stores a password: you sign in with Google, Microsoft, or a link we email you. Your account holds your email address, your plan, and the date and result of each upload (whether it made a full set of questions, came back short, or wasn't a lesson), to count your monthly and daily limits. It doesn't keep the file or its text. Your sign-in is remembered in this browser until you sign out.

On Bellwork Plus, your lessons, edits, and play history are also stored in your account so they sync across your devices. The first time, Bellwork asks before copying this browser's lessons in. Each teacher can only read their own rows. On Free, your lessons stay in this browser. Signing out can also clear this browser's copy, which is worth doing on a shared computer.

Payments

Bellwork Plus is paid through Stripe's own checkout and billing pages. Bellwork never sees or stores your card number; it keeps only your Stripe customer ID and whether your subscription is active.

Your files

When you upload a lesson, the file is sent to Bellwork's server and passed to Claude, Anthropic's AI model, which writes the questions. Bellwork doesn't store the file, and the server log records only that processing succeeded or failed, never the lesson's contents. Anthropic handles the file under its commercial API terms. Student names and personal notes in a lesson plan are left out of the questions, and you review every question before playing.

Students

Students never need accounts and don't enter any information. Only the teacher signs in, and only to save lessons or manage a plan. Team names are whatever you type.

Third parties

No analytics, ads, or trackers. Fonts are bundled with the app, so no requests go to font services either. The only outside services are Supabase (accounts), Stripe (payments), and Anthropic (lesson processing), each used only for the purpose above.
